Pack 231 is a Cub Scout unit comprised of families from Pocopson Elementary (West Chester, PA), Chadds Ford Elementary & Hillendale Elementary (Chadds Ford, PA) Schools in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District. Our charter organization is the Longwood Rotary Club and are a part of the Octoraro District in Chester County Council, Scouts BSA.
Pack 231 has the distinction of being voted "Top Pack" in the Lenni Lenape District, Chester County Council for both 2009 and 2010. Lenni Lenape District is comprised of all Cub Scout Packs within the Unionville/Chadds Ford and West Chester Area School Districts. Through the dedication of our leaders, and with active, helpful parents and scouts we continue to deliver a top quality scouting program at Pocopson.
Cub Scouting is family-oriented fun, designed for school aged boys and girls in First through Fifth grades, or 6 to 10 years of age. In Pack 231 we use rank advancement, awards, and FUN to achieve character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Everything a Cub does to advance is designed to aid in his personal growth. Advancement is the process by which a Cub progresses from badge to badge, learning new skills along the way. As we help our Cub Scouts advance, we are always mindful that badges are simply a means to an end - and not an end in themselves. Cub Scouting is the stepping-stone to Scouts BSA which promotes, through organization and cooperation with other agencies, the ability of Scouts to do things for themselves and others. It trains them in scout-craft, and teaches them patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues, using the methods which were in common use by Boy Scouts since the founding of the organization on June 15, 1916.You can learn more about Cub Scouting by visiting the National Scouting web site.
You may join Cub Scouts anytime. We hold our Recruitment (School Night) in September where parents and prospective Cubs can learn more about the program. Check the calendar for the date and time of this event. In addition to our monthly meetings during the school year, we hold many special activities. Click on the "Activities & Events" link for more information.
Although Pack 231 does not meet formally during the summer months, we have an active summer program. In addition to organizing groups to attend the various summer camps available to our Cubs, some additional activities have included ice skating, indoor rock climbing, Blue Rocks baseball, bowling, etc.
Pack Stats There are about 45 registered Cub Scouts in Pack 231 as of January 2024. There are 15 volunteer adult leaders, assistants, and committee members. We are always looking for help to diversify our leadership talent pool. If you are interested in contributing, please send us an email.
